Director of Strategy & Finance
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the SMI field for underserved populations? Join Flourish to help transform the landscape of mental health!
About Us
1 in 25 adolescents will be diagnosed with serious mental illness. Most don’t get the care they need. Flourish (https://flourish.health/) is solving that.
About the Role
We have the beginnings of a finance function. It works, but it’s early. You will make it great. This is not a “manage the function” role. This is a take what exists and level it up fast role—while helping us make better decisions every day.
You will report directly to the CEO and partner with the leadership team to bring rigor to how we plan, spend, and grow. You should be comfortable going from messy data → clear insight → real decisions.
You will bring operational and strategic excellence to our billing operations, which are critical to the company’s success. This includes leading timely collections, strong payer operations, identifying opportunities to improve revenue cycle performance, and clear reporting to the C-suite.
What You’ll Do:
FP&A
Create real visibility into burn, runway, and unit economics.
Own budgets, business financial models, and forecasts. Work alongside a Fractional CFO to prepare monthly financials.
Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen accuracy, scalability, and automation of financial reporting.
Controllership & Taxes
Own accounting/controller responsibilities and oversight – for the first 6-12 months, you will do this yourself to really understand the business.
Own and manage the tax process across our MSO/PC structure, working with external partners to ensure compliance while optimizing for efficiency as we scale.
Cross-Functional Billing Operations
Own billing and collections, end-to-end—driving both operational excellence and strategic improvement.
Effectively support and manage the billing associate, who manually submits claims and will look to you for an excellent work experience
Drive efforts to close the gap in the difference between net and gross revenue by owning billing analysis and providing strong cross-functional project management to solve this with your clinical operations and clinical product colleagues:
Develop data-driven ways to identify which patients are at risk of now meeting billing engagement thresholds in time to re-engage them within the same 30-day service window
Develop data-driven ways to identify which patients are at risk of medicaid churn and how to ensure care teams are following up on that
You will thrive here if you:
Care deeply about building a sustainable, high-quality company that improves outcomes for adolescents with serious mental health conditions.
Are an expert in forecasting models who is able to interpret financial data and allocate budgets
Have strong operational, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Are interested in responsibility & ownership at an early-stage startup
Are highly entrepreneurial and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance
Have an extreme growth mindset, driven by intense curiosity
